The $52 million terminal renovation at Rick Husband International Airport include a new central concourse, new baggage systems, new concession and retail space, and renovated ticket counters.
The project required that the existing terminal stay operational as the expansion and renovation project took place, so the packaged central plat allowed for a quick changeover of utility services.
Three quarters of the way through the project, the area received 1-in-500-year rains which flooded the area with 11 inches of rain in just 4 hours. This damaged most of the equipment located in the basement, including the central plant equipment. Thanks to the project team, and a quick response from equipment and labor suppliers, the project was kept on schedule in spite of the historic weather encountered.
